This week on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, MG Ann Liu is back with guest, fellow Master Gardener Jon Schara for the second archived installment of “Winter Pruning of Fruit Bearers, Dormant Pruning, Part 2” which picks up where Part 1 left off a couple of weeks ago.
Now, Ann and Jon will discuss more stone fruit pruning (apricots and plums) which, surprisingly, do not take quite the same process as nectarines and peaches. Apricots should NOT be pruned in the winter! Wait until after the wet season or there is risk of fungus. Jon also has great tips for you about pruning Grapes and Figs (a must to control growth).
Berries – both vining and bush berries – are described in detail as continued fruit production may be jeopardized if pruned incorrectly. Citrus trees – the everbearing cornerstone agricultural commodity of our county – are pruned now strictly for shape and size. But watch for Citrus Leaf Miner! So much valuable information in these two shows! Learn more every week on In the Garden! Music by Raglan Rogues!
