Cultivating Gardening Skills Workshops
This hands-on workshop series offers gardeners opportunities to learn and practice new skills. The series is wide-ranging, and covers current topics of interest.
Each workshop will be held at South Coast Research and Extension Center,
7601 Irvine Blvd, Irvine 92618
The cost for each workshop is $20.00 per person. Some classes may have additional/optional materials fees, and this is noted in the description of the workshop.
Workshops will be held on Saturdays, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, with exception of the beginning and advanced Backyard Bee Classes being held on Wednesdays as listed from 9am to 12pm.

May 3 The Buzz About Bees - Wednesday, 9:00am to 12:00pm
Not everyone wants to keep bees, but everyone needs to know how useful they are.

May 31 Advanced Backyard Beekeeping - Wednesdays, 9:00am to 12:00pm
During this three-part workshop series, attendees will learn how to start and maintain a backyard colony using the best beekeeping practices based on science and research. Additional class dates include June 7 and June 14.
Fee for this three-part workshop series is $90.00.

June 3 Pruning Fundamentals for Ornamentals
This workshop will teach you the best pruning cuts for safety, eye appeal,
and what to do and not to do to keep plants healthy. It includes hands-on
tool sharpening. Participants can bring 1 tool to learn proper tool cleaning
and sharpening techniques. Please wear closed-toe shoes.
Optional tool sharpening/cleaning kits are available for $30.00 payable at
class. The kit includes all the necessary items for proper cleaning and sharpening.

June 17 Fruit Trees – Summer Pruning Methods
This workshop will highlight which fruit trees require summer pruning and
how to do it. Hands-on pruning will take place in our Pluot grove.
Participants should bring sterilized tools of their choice.
Please wear closed-toe shoes.
