Brrr .. it's cold outside! Winter Pruning of Fruit Bearers, Dormant Pruning on
Brrr .. it's cold outside! Well, there is still stuff to do in the garden this time of year. This week on In the Garden, UC Master Gardener and KUCI staff host Ann Liu will talk with fellow Master Gardener Jon Schara on the topic of “Winter Pruning of Fruit Bearers and Dormant Pruning” – Part 1 of 2.

Specifically, avocado and citrus, then stone fruit (peaches and nectarines), apples, pomegranate, and persimmon. Each grouping or individual fruit here has its own requirements.

After the pruning process, learn a bit about dormant sprays. If pruned properly, your fruit harvest should be bountiful and of good quality. Are you afraid of producing more fruit than your family could possibly eat? Did you know there are volunteer organizations in Orange County that can come to your garden, pick your extra fruit, and ultimately distribute the harvest to the underserved in the community. One organization took in 75,000 pounds in one year!
