What's New on the MG Site?

New pest of avocado, California Live Oak...

The Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer, a tiny (0.1 inch long) beetle that drills into trees, has been found in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  It brings with it a fungus (Fusarium sp.) that infects the trees.

The beetle attacks a wide range of native, ornamental, and horticultural trees. The fungus destroys the food and water conducting systems of the tree, eventually causing stress and dieback.
