Tom Farrell has been a University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardener since 1999 and has been gardening for 45 years. While his earlier memories of gardening include helping his mother in their greenhouse where they grew orchids, it was when Tom became a new homeowner that his gardening interests and skills flourished. He started out by just doing, then learned more and accumulated experience that helped to expand and grow his skills.
Tom received a Certificate in Ornamental Horticulture from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. His gardening areas of interest/knowledge are fruit trees, vegetables and garden design. And if you ask Tom what he likes best about gardening he will tell you: peace.
As a UCCE Master Gardener, Tom participates in the demonstration gardens at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, volunteers at the South Coast Research and Extension Center (SCREC) in Irvine. He is a member of the Speakers Bureau and a charter member of the UCCE Toastmasters. A native of Chicago, Tom is retired and enjoys the opportunity to garden year round in Southern California.
