Shrub-Vine- Creeping fig

Creeping fig (Ficus pumila) is a good choice for a wall. It is an evergreen vine that will attach itself to wood, stucco or metal. No need to attach supporting wire or other framework, as the small disks on the backside of the tendrils will stick to the surface as it grows and covers. Creeping fig plants should be planted about 2 to 3 feet apart.
Here is some basic information about this plant:
• Light - does best in bright indirect sunlight, will tolerate shade, but not direct, hot sun (west-facing walls)
• Soil Type - good general purpose soil that retains water yet drains well. If you purchase soil, check to see that it is well aerated; add sand or perlite and peat moss if it seems to pack too tightly
If you want to mix your own soil you can use this mix:
1 part garden soil, 1 part coarse sand or perlite, 1 part moist peat or humus (leaf mold)
• Watering - keep the soil barely moist
• Fertilizer: feed every two weeks during the spring and summer with a water-soluble fertilizer
• Plant Pests - prone to whitefly, mealy bugs, scale and thrips. Always inspect any new plant for pests before introducing it to your home
• Pruning – pinch and prune as needed to keep growth under control and shaped as you desire. Over time it can overgrow; to maintain control, prune hard every few years
