    Description: Native to western North America; deciduous perennial with green foliage

    Sun: Sun to part shade

    Water: Drought tolerant to moderate

    Soil: Tolerates sand, clay and seasonal flooding

    Habit and form: Fast growing; 1-4 feet tall and spreading, clumping; spreads from the roots

    Flower type: Large clusters on spikes

    Flower color & bloom season: Yellow flower, very showy; blooms in summer through fall

    Uses for plant and/or flowers: Attracts butterflies and pollinating insects; great for a bird garden

    Pruning time & method: Goes dormant in winter, good time to cut back to the ground

    Maintenance tips: Plant where it is wet in March, dry in summer
