    Soil: Tolerates decomposed granite, rocky soils to clay loam

    Habit and form: Fast growing shrub to 12 feet high, 8-10 feet wide; small shiny bright green leaves  known for the vivid seed display; fruit shows a long, plumose style

    Flower type: Tubular flowers are small and inconspicuous but followed by showy, silky-plumed seed heads in summer

    Flower color and bloom season: Yellow flowers bloom in spring through early summer

    Uses, if any, for plant and/or flowers: Erosion control on dry slopes; useful as hedge
