A Defensible Space Against WildfiresThere is no doubt this year will be a huge year for wildfires! Our intrepid “In the Garden” host for this week, David Letourneau, is bringing you a much-needed replay called “Creating A Defensible Space Against Wildfires”.

Creating A Defensible Space Against Wildfires
David talked with OC Fire Authority representatives Teri Merritt, Fire Prevention Specialist / Wildland Pre-Fire Management with the Orange County Fire Authority and Capt. Larry Kurtz to bring you new ideas plus all the recommendations to help keep your property safe from an oncoming wildfire.

Beware of Mexican Feather Grass – very popular but is now considered invasive and are being removed by the best plant nurseries – and dead palm fronds up in the canopy. “Oily” plants like cypress are drought-tolerant but very flammable. Brush clearance out to 100 feet from structures is rule of thumb. This may require cooperation from your neighbors so BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR and listen in on what to do to be safe this fire season. Here is a good resource for further information. OCFA - Orange County Fire Authority
